Skate Bag

Recently I’ve started getting tired of shoving my skates into a too-small beach bag along with my mom’s ice skates, so I figured that instead of buying another bag, I could just make one myself.

I didn’t use that many measurements in making this bag, I literally just put a skate down on a piece of newspaper and outlined around it to create the shape for the body of the bag. For the width of the bag, I put both skates on a piece of newspaper and figured out the width it would have to be for both skates to fit. I think it was about 9 inches. The strap was about 6 inches wide. The entire bag, except for the zipper piece, had fusible interfacing ironed to the lining, and the bottom of the bag had an additional lining of some dense felt to provide cushioning to the bottom of the skates in case I drop the bag.

One thing that I could have done better was to make the bag narrower, maybe 8 inches or less, but I was afraid that if I made it too narrow the skates would not fit in the bag. I also think that if I had some sort of plastic to insert into the bottom of the bag, in addition to the felt, it might have provided the bag some more structure and given the bottom of the skates more protection.
